Annual General Meeting
The AGM took place on Tuesday 2nd March 2010. The Chairman thanked everyone connected with the Community Centre for their dedication over the last year and gave a summary of the highlights:
Fund raising events such as bingo nights and the 3rd Real Ale Festival generated over £1000;External funding obtained to provide a hearing loop and the geothermal heat pump (see below);
More bookings taken to give an income from hire of £17,232 (a 17% increase over 2007/8);
A net surplus of £1039 at the year ending 31 March 2009, to be reinvested in the facility.
Ground Source Heating Project
After much work to secure the necessary funding, construction has begun on the 100m deep bore holes along the north east side of the building. A closed loop of buried pipe, containing a mixture of water and antifreeze, will absorb the underground heat (a constant 14°C all year round). This is the most efficient form of energy extraction with negligible visual and noise impact on the environment.
Inside the building, a heat exchanger will convert the temperature of the water leaving the bore holes to a more usable 60°C, where it will be stored in a buffer tank to provide sufficient hot water for washing needs and significantly reduce the amount of oil used for space heating in the winter. As well as reduced running costs, this project supports our environmental mission to cut CO2 emissions.
